Sai Versailles’ work traverses the fields of art and journalism.
As multimedia journalist, her reporting explores communities on the fringes and the undercurrents of their everyday lives. She is part of the founding team of Rolling Stone Philippines where is Digital Editor, overseeing the daily news report, in addition to covering music, politics, and counterculture.
As a multi-genre selector under the name Versailles, her chameleonic approach takes references from literature and cinema. Master Selector, her Refuge Worldwide residency in Berlin since 2021, is influenced by jazz, rap, and dub history, while her taste as a DJ began in the 2000s with trance and downtempo.
In the Manila club circuit, Versailles' sets shuffle through densely layered repetitions of a tough and swinging sound that is informed by her cross-generational understanding of dance music. She is a fierce experimentalist who defies dogmatism on the dancefloor, weaving idiosyncratic genres into unpredictable moments. She is resident DJ of transit records, an electronic music collective, who has performed in parties and radio stations throughout Europe and Asia.
She is a grassroots organizer who has participated in public discussions on subjects spanning art, culture, and creativity, including collaborations with Boiler Room, VICE, NTS Radio, Resident Advisor, Mixmag, CTM Festival, Goethe-Institut, British Council, and Metropolitan Museum of Manila, among others. She is also a volunteer at Manila Community Radio.
She earned an MPhil in international development from the University of Oxford in 2019.
